Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston

All Tough Ruckers must follow the guidelines below to earn your medal. We've added some helpful tips because we want all of you to earn the medal. Medals cannot be awarded without photo proof of completed time and distance. Your route is not required. Please read the information below carefully. We strongly encourage you to bring extra cell phone chargers/battery packs to ensure you can track your total distance and time.
Tough Ruck 2021 must be completed from October 1-10, 2021.
All Ruckers must complete a 26.2 mile course in one continuous ruck. We do anticipate that Ruckers will stop to hydrate, fuel, rest, change socks, bathroom breaks etc. We encourage Ruckers to set a goal to complete the course within 10 hours. If your time is above 10 hours it may not appear in the Tough Ruck official results however you can still earn your medal. Keep on rucking!
All Ruckers must wear a rucksack on their backs weighing a minimum of 15 pounds throughout the entire distance. Weighted vests cannot be used as a substitute for a rucksack. This is an #integritycheck and you will self report your ruck weight at the post race survey. Light weight division is 15lbs+ and heavy weight division is 35lbs+.
You may use any app of your choosing to record time and distance. We do recommend you use an app that shows your course in case you lose satellite coverage. Multiple screenshots of distance and course adding up to 26.2 miles can be reviewed by the race certifier and be accepted if you have technology challenges (i.e. loss GPS signal). Our team will be on social to assist with urgent timing issues. You can message our Facebook page or Website with your contact info and questions.
All Ruckers must complete the finishers survey by October 12, 2021 at 12PM EST to be eligible to earn their official Tough Ruck 2021 Boston Marathon Medal.
On your finishers survey, you must include one screenshot showing your completed distance/time. You must also include one start and one finish line selfie showing your bib number.
All Ruckers must be officially registered for the Virtual Tough Ruck and have completed their fundraising minimum by the September 5th deadline. Your must be at least 18 years old on race day to participate.
POST RUCK SURVEY:
All Ruckers must complete the Tough Ruck Post Ruck Survey.
Any survey submitted after the October 12th deadline may be delayed in certification Everyone's result - regardless of timing method - will be go through our certification team at Blue Ridge Timing before the results are finalized.

After your finisher results are verified, your Boston Marathon Medal will be mailed vis USPS by October 30, 2021. Your medal will be mailed to the same address your Tough Ruck race pack was mailed to. Lost medals will not be able to be replaced. Please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org by October 11th if you need to update your address.

TRACK YOUR RUCKER!:
Do you want your cheering squad, family, and donors to be able to see you on the course? They can find you on the RaceJoy app by downloading the app, searching for Tough Ruck 2021 and clicking " I want to track someone." Ruckers must approve each request to track their ruck before they will become visible to friends and family.

All participants rucksacks must weigh a minimum of 15lbs for light division or a minimum of 35lbs for heavy division. Weigh your own ruck and report the weigh on your Tough Ruck Finishers survey. #IntegrityCheck. The only weight that is recorded is the weight in the ruck. Weighted vests will not count towards the weight. You must maintain the minimum ruck weight for your division throughout the entire course.
DRESS/UNIFORMED MILITARY OR FIRST RESPONDER DIVISION:
For this year's virtual experience, Ruckers can wear any clothes you choose. Check the weather and dress appropriately to maximize your endurance.
If you are taking part in the uniformed military or first responder division, you will be able to select uniform division in the finishers survey.
RIBBONS FOR THE FALLEN:
As part of Tough Ruck tradition, each Rucker will complete the entire course carrying a rucksack with the names of Fallen Military and First Responders. You are welcome to make your own ribbons prior to the ruck. We ask that you post a photo of your ruck with your bib number to our Facebook page or use our event hashtag #toughruck to ensure that families of the Fallen can follow your journey with their loved ones ribbon.

VIRTUAL RUCKER PROTOCOL:
We are grateful you have all chosen to continue on with the mission. We strongly encourage Tough Ruckers to ruck in their own communities. Help us be good neighbors! Ensure you have respect all private and public land boundaries along your course. Please make sure you are following health, safety, face covering, social distancing and other guidelines of the community you are rucking in. If you do ruck with groups, please practice safe social distancing guidelines. Each year Ruckers will be taking part at their own risk. Please stay safe out there! Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Our friends at Minuteman National Park have asked us to remind Ruckers that most of the trails do not allow for groups to properly social distance. Participants are strongly encouraged to not to ruck the traditional Tough Ruck course or the Boston Marathon Course as these courses contain many sections that are on private land and sections that do not contain sidewalks or sufficient space off of the roadway for Ruckers to safely travel.
HYDRATION & TOILETS:
Tough Ruckers should be self-contained and bring the fuel and the hydration needed for the course. Remember to factor your water and fuel consumption in throughout the course and how it might impact your overall minimum weight requirements. We highly recommend scouting out your bathroom options for your course in advance.
How do I enter the 2021 Tough Ruck?
Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston General Registration Opens Tuesday, April 27th at 12PM. The registration link can be found at the top of this page.
Who can register for the Tough Ruck?
Registration is open to Civilians, Active Military, Veterans, and First Responders ages 18 and older.
Will the 2021 Tough Ruck be in person?
Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the local communities we work with and the National Park Service are not offering event permitting at this time. We hope that our meet-up platform will allow a lot of Ruckers to connect in person.
Can I cancel? Can I get a refund?
Once registered, every Rucker is committing to both the cause and fulfilling their fundraising even if they can’t for any reason take part in the event itself. We emphasize this to Ruckers throughout the registration process and in the included agreement waiver so there are not any surprises.
Like other major marathon events, including The Boston Marathon, once you register Tough Ruck is NOT able to allow for any cancellations, bib transfers or any changes to your registration, including fulfilling the fundraising commitment you made. After the fundraising deadline any amount that isn’t fundraised will be charged to your account.
If you are registering with a team that covers your registration fee, please check with them before you register as we are unable to refund the fee or the bib to the team once you register.
Do I have to fundraise to participate in Tough Ruck?
Yes. Each person is individually responsible for their fundraising commitment based on the registration option chosen. You are able to join a team however the fundraising commitment is each individual Rucker's responsibility, Team funds can not be re-distributed amongst the team once they have been donated. Each Rucker must raise their minimum commitment by the fundraising deadline or the credit card on file will be charged the difference. (i.e. A Rucker who commits to raise $450 and only has raised $350 at the deadline will be charged the remaining $100, A Rucker who commits to raise $1500 and has $0 raised at the deadline will have the entire $1500 charged to their card on file, etc.)
The funds you commit to raise will provide much needed support for military families and families of Fallen Heroes. You without exaggeration will be providing a lifetime to countless others. Thank you for choosing this mission.
What divisions is Tough Ruck 26.2 divided into?
Tough Ruck features 2 weight divisions and 3 categories of dress.
The 2 weight divisions are Light weight (15+ Lbs.) and Heavy Weight (35+ Lbs.)
The 3 categories of dress are Uniformed Military, Uniformed First Responder, and Civilian.
How old do you have to be to participate in the Tough Ruck?
Due to the duration and intense physical challenge, you must be at least 18 years old to take part in the 26.2 mile Tough Ruck. Each Rucker will need to provide date of birth on your registration form. Any Rucker found providing false information during registration, including date of birth will be disqualified and unable to participate in any Tough Ruck event in the future.
Is there an opportunity to earn additional items through fundraising?
The deadline to earn additional swag above your original commitment is August 20th, 2021. Higher fundraising levels that are reached after the deadline will not earn the additional swag.
What is the fundraising deadline for Tough Ruck 2021?
The fundraising deadline for the 2021 Tough Ruck is August 25th 2021.
Update: We know you are working hard training and fundraising for Tough Ruck 2021; Therefore, We have extended the fundraising deadline to reach your minimum commitment to Sunday Sept. 5th 2021. All Tough Ruck 2021 campaign pages will remain open so that you can continue to fundraise above and beyond your commitment through October 31st. Thank You for your continued commitment to help military and first responders. We look forward to seeing your photos from the course.
I was not able to meet my fundraising minimum by the deadline, What happens now?
All Tough Ruckers who do not meet their fundraising minimum by the (Updated) Sept. 5th deadline will have their credit card on file charged by Run Sign Up. Any Tough Rucker whose credit card on file could not be successfully charged for the remaining balance of their fundraising commitment will be sent an invoice due no later than (Updated) September 8th. If your invoice is not paid by the due date you will not receive your Tough Ruck packet and will not be eligible to participate in the event.
Can I keep fundraising after the deadline?
Yes. Your personal fundraising page will be live and accepting donations through October 31, 2021.
What is the cutoff for top fundraisers prizes?
Top fundraisers will be calculated at 12PM on October 12, 2021.
I did not complete my fundraising minimum by the September 5th deadline and my credit card was charged. If I raise additional funds after the deadline can I be refunded.
We appreciate you choosing the mission and understand that fundraising can often be as challenging or more challenging than your ruck training. We know this year presented a number of additional challenges due to COVID.
If you raise additional funds to meet your commitment and funds are reflected on your personal RunSignUp fundraising page by October 31, 2021 than you will have a one-time option to submit a request for a reimbursement of fees. You must check back here for the request form and submit the form by November 1, 2021. Funds can only be reimbursed to the credit card on file. A $45 fee will be deducted from the credit.
Can I complete the 26.2 miles over multiple days?
No. Participants are required to complete the 26.2 marathon distance continuously, on the same day.
Is there a Tax ID for donations?
Military Friends Foundation is the official charity of Tough Ruck. The non-profit ID is 37-1462599. Military Friends Foundation is the d/b/a for Friends of the National Guard and Reserve Families, Inc.
I have a donation in the form of a check, Can this be added to my online fundraising?
Yes. Checks must include the name of the Rucker on the check in order to be credited to your fundraiser. Please make checks payable to: Military Friends Foundation. Checks may take up to 3 weeks from when they are received to be credited to your account. All checks must be received no later than August 20th 2021 in order to be credited onto your fundraising total before the deadline.
We are unable to credit any funds until they are received, this includes any corporate donation matching. Matching donations will not be counted towards the fundraising minimum if they are not received by the deadline.

My employer offers a Matching Gift program, Can I submit my donation for a Matching Gift?
Yes, Donations to Tough Ruck can be submitted for a Corporate Matching Gift. Please note: We are unable to credit any funds until they are received, many Corporate Matching programs only send matching donations once every quarter. Matching donations will not be counted towards the fundraising minimum if they are not received by the deadline.
I set up a fundraiser through another site, does that count towards my fundraising goal?
We are only able to track and count fundraising done through the Tough Ruck official fundraising site. If you have raised funds elsewhere you will need to make a donation to your page yourself to transfer these funds in order for them to appear on your official Tough Ruck fundraising page. In the event the other fundraiser will send the funds directly to Military Friends Foundation they will not be able to be credited to your account until after the funds have been received, please see the above question about check donations for more info about requirements for mailing checks.
Can I use the Tough Ruck Logo for fundraising? Can I/my team have shirts, hats, or other swag made with the Tough Ruck Logo?
Tough Ruck is trademarked. Requests to use the Tough Ruck name and/or Logo must be received in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org and you must receive written approval prior to the use of our name and/or logo for any fundraiser and/or on any marketing materials including t-shirts, coins, hats, etc. Any use of the Tough Ruck Logo or Name without written approval prior to use may be considered a trade mark violation.
Can I use the Tough Ruck bib to fundraise for other non-profits?
No. We appreciate your involvement and support of many tremendous causes. That being said, Tough Ruck is the signature fundraising event for Military Friends Foundation each year and provides critical resources for military families. We do not allow any of the limited 1000 Tough Ruck bibs to be used to fundraise for any other event or non-profit.
Am I able to transfer my bib?
No, bibs are not transferable for Tough Ruck. You will need a government issued photo ID to pick-up your bib (e.g. license, military ID). Any Rucker found using a fake/false ID or transferring a bib will be disqualified and unable to participate in the event in the future.
I want to register again but didn't meet my fundraising commitment in the past?
We appreciate your continued interest. If for some reason you didn't meet your fundraising commitment in the past and we weren't able to automatically bill the credit card you left on file we reached out to you to make a donation to your page. We are limited to 1000 Tough Ruck bibs and we count on your commitment to our military families. We reserve the right to reject registration if you have not been able to meet your fundraising commitment in the past. We encourage you to contact us before registering.
When do I get my Boston Marathon Medal?
Tough Ruck 2021 Medals will be mailed to the address provided at registration prior to the start of the event. Please ensure you notify us in writing at email@example.com as soon as possible if your address changes, Tough Ruck is not responsible for lost or returned packages due to incorrect mailing addresses.

New for Tough Ruck 2021 - Registered Ruckers will have exclusive access to the Tough Rucker "Meet-Up" platform which will provide an opportunity to connect directly with others about in person course and team opportunities.
